I think I would like to like this movie more than I did. From start to finish it's a very watchable movie. But that's where it ends.
The problem is that it is full of intense loopholes, some of which would rely upon a series of events for them to work, leaving a lot to chance. If this said "out of his control" series of events needed for success were not to occur it would leave the protagonist dead in the water so to speak.
Where it goes off the rails... given Charlie's series of deadman switches intended to protect his life against the CIA antagonists causing his sudden and untimely death, the final set-up just feels really weak.
While there is nothing wrong with Rami Malek's acting, little time was given over to real character development, giving us a very 2 dimensional character.
The trouble with the lack of character development, it gives viewers two opportunities while watching the movie.
One, you don't have a real sense that his character could ultimately pull off any of what he does, even if you wish he could.
Two, it opens your eyes to all the cheap plot devices that cheapen the experience.
But all this said, you probably won't be disappointed watching the movie, but it is not a masterclass in any of the ways it could be. If you expect more out of your movies, then it might not tickle your fancy.
