Full disclosure, I am not a believer in the effectiveness of cognitive behavior therapy but I'm familiar with what it is.
Episode 1 showed nothing resembling it. What it does present is basically a therapist tired and frustrated with his patients, who he thinks pretty much know what to do but don't do it (a weakness of CBT, i.e., if it is a problem of not knowing and can be fixed through learning, it's not a mental illness, it's a behavior problem).
There is a "montage" of patients complaining and the vibe is, look at all these whiny complainers.
It's disrespectful and insulting to people that go to therapy. In this show, they're part of the joke, haha. People with mental health issues are funny, haha. Wouldn't it be funnier if we had a therapist break professional boundaries and interfere with their lives, hilarious!
Yeah, maybe not everyone in therapy needs to be there, but that just means their therapist is unethical. If they do need have legit issues, it's not humorous, nor the makings of a comedy show.
