The casting of this movie was excellent. The characters of Clark/Superman, Lois and Lex were perfectly embodied by the actors and the supporting characters were similarly lovable. The story, however, fell flat for me. I had the feeling throughout the movie, that instead of Clark earning his character development through his actions, the plot was always happening to him. His arrival to what was supposed to be a lesson learned about his character and values were never shown in the movie and felt kind of out of nowhere. The dialogue in the movie was unfortunately also very weak. The โshow donโt tellโ approach clearly wasnโt implemented as I had to listen to characters explain everything happening on screen all the time. The movie felt like it discounted the audience and attempted to put action on screen with a gimmick of a story but no real substance. The movie tried to be everything, funny, deep, action packed, emotional, but kind of achieved none of these. A focus on the core characters would have allowed more time to create an enjoyable story where everyone learns something by the end. If this is the planned direction of the DCU, I hope Gunn learns from this movie in time.
