Oh man. Where do I start. First off, Iโm surprised the movie was only PG-13. They definitely were trying to get as close as possible to the line with this one and for no good reason.
I had high hopes for the movie. I love the character Doctor Strange but this movie took a hard turn away from what you expect from superhero movies.
The movie delves into creepy, dark, and gross magic use. Again, for no good reason. We were all expecting something crazy with the multiverse but not magic use that is basically necromancy and demon possession.
The movie constantly shows scenes that are, from what I hear, similar to scenes from other well-known horror movies. I guess the director loved his other movies so much he wanted to show his scenes twice instead of being creative and making new scenes.
The story line was fairly uninteresting, strung together with weak action sequences, and lacked any real character development.
It did feature a costarring actress who struggled to pull her weight (more than the child actors in the movie and thatโs saying something).
They attempted to redeem the movie with fan service by showing some new characters. Characters that were then brutally killed and whose lines literally made me laugh out loud because of how bad they were.
The movie just got darker and darker as you went. The only aspect of the movie that outpaced this as you moved forward was how cringe it was.
It truly is sad that Marvel made such a train wreck. One that is being compared to the recent Morbius movie. Ouch.
