Easily one of the best documentaries I've seen. Not just of the space program or Apollo missions, but documentaries in general.
I've always been fascinated with the Apollo missions, but it's all been conceptual - until this.
Immersive from beginning to end, the format does away with dramatic celebrity narration, elaborate special effects, or re-enactments. Every aspect of this presentation is geared towards delivering the unadulterated magic of the greatest technological feat of human kind. Besides the subject matter, the strongest quality of this documentary is that there is no embellishment of any kind. And besides, there is no need to embellish the story of Man's first trip to the moon.
Apollo 11 happened more than a decade before I was born, so I never got to experience what I'm guessing was an overwhelming sense of inspiration, wonder, and pride for those who witnessed this first-hand. This doc is the closest I will ever get, right now, to being physically there.
If you're a fan of space exploration, engineering, and/or exemplary film making and storytelling, Apollo 11 is for you. Hanep!
