This is a great show, and even being about 20 years old, it still stands strong today. It has great writing and timeless humor. The start of the series is very camp, and that isn't for everyone. I like that the show feels really self aware and kind of makes fun of itself. It doesn't feel that serious all the time. If you don't like season 1, at least watch till the end of season 2 and you might change your mind. Really think about the episodes, you'll see that a lot of them are metaphors for things we all deal with. They touch on a lot of topics like greif, mental illness, abusive realtionships, and more. There's also great character development between all the characters.
