This is a 2023 metal genre album from the prolific, Australian independent rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. More specially, the album is in the style of thrash metal and progressive metal. The inspirations from the band Tool are everywhere (Pay close attention to the guitar picking and the breakdowns!).
Continuing the overall environmental doomsday scenarios and metal styles from the band’s well-received 2019 album, “Infest the Rats’ Nest”, 2023’s “PreDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: The Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation” is still just as heavy and more progressive. Guitar shredding, polyrhythms, and dizzying time signatures reign. This album surpasses “Infest the Rats’ Nest” in every measure. And not to diminish the 2019 album. It’s that “PreDragonic Apocalypse” is just that good.
But you get everything you love about King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard here. This album is a must for your collection. I would love to jam with these fellas if I were so lucky. This album is another example of these guys’ love for music and understanding of music while having the most fun with music.
I gave it 5 stars. I can’t even get upset by the ridiculously long-winded album title.
And by the time this review gets 10 views, the band’s next LP will probably drop.
