I've been trying really hard to stick with this. Adaptations are rarely as good as the books they are taken from and this is no exception. Making the character of Mia black works until you realize they've made her the stereotypical angry black woman. Kerry Washington is a good actress and they'd have done well to let her play Mia as she was originally written - a sensitive, damaged soul who sees the truth behind the image Elena works so hard to maintain. Mia in the book was kind and caring but in the show, she's barely likable and the relationships that were central to the book aren't showing at all in the show. I'll stick it out to the end but if you've read the book, you'd be best to skip this completely and avoid the disappointment.
