I find it interesting how so many Black people feel entitled to be "outraged" by Rachel Dolezal, citing her braids as "cultural appropriation" as one example of theft, while saying absolutely NOTHING about Black people running around with blonde hair (or having it themselves).
Not to mention that I NEVER see ANYONE speaking on the brutal and tragic abuse of her adopted Black siblings, focusing their so-called "rage" solely on Rachel herself. It's disingenuous to me, at best.
This documentary sheds light on WHY Rachel chose to identify with Black people instead of embracing her connection to her White family, who only exposed Rachel to the public to protect their son, who sexually abused their adopted Black daughter as they (the parents) physically abused both of their adopted Black children.
Where is the outrage for THEM?!?
I understand Rachel more having seen this documentary. I empathize and I choose to save MY "rage" for someone who truly deserves it (in my eyes). This woman has been through enough, and ONE White woman pretending to be Black is no threat to me (as a Black person).
I'd encourage those who have strong opinions about Rachel Dolezal to watch this film, if they don't know her full story. If you still choose to be full of hate, anger and outrage, that's your choice... of course. I just think that unless those strong feelings are towards Rachel's parents and brother, all of that vitriol and outrage is misdirected (IMO).
Whether you agree or disagree with my opinion, that's your business. I'm not looking to please anyone by joining their Hate Rachel Dolezal Club. I can think for myself. You do you. To each, their own perspective.
