There is an indescribable feeling that you get when you watch a family like the Richardson’s defy every odd set up against them. We will never understand what it is to be inside prison walls for 21 + years. The families that are incarcerated with them face that time too. This movie holds space for an hour and half to feel the emotional rollercoaster that this criminal legal system puts people through. To win an Oscar, that’s just recognition of a story of 2.3 million incarcerated families today.
