THE ONLY TRUE UNBIASED REVIEW: This show is hilarious and brings comedy from both white and black cultures. It brings humor to the many stereotypes of both sides that alot of people are scared or reluctant to speak on. It also brings humor to many conflicts that devide the two races, which can help in understanding different points of views. The two families chemistry (Butlers/Johnsons) works well given the personalities involved which are surprisingly accurate. Calvin Butler is a typical middle aged black man who has been around long enough to know what inequality looks like so he starts off his relationship with the Johnsons very reserved and untrusted. Tina Butler is less reserved and has better chemistry with the Johnsons then Calvin I believe because a "Woman's perspective" is more level headed then a man's in many situations. They have 2 sons who are polar opposites as far as life ambition and are refreshingly able to find humor in many stereotypes they most find upsetting. The Johnsons Dave and Gemma along with their son Grover are a progressive millennial white couple who seem to be purposefully naive of many black stereotypes which fuels the inevitable friendship of the two families. The chemistry between Calvin and Dave can be related to Ned Flanders and Homer Simpson, as Calvin is reluctant to befriend Dave due to his happy-go-lucky personality which he finds annoying. The two families eventually find common ground and become very good neighbors despite cultural differences which is what's needed in real life.
