First Episode started off well I almost thought Hill House Flanagan was back after the last two boring disasters Midnight Mass and Bly Manor but unfortunately this series suffers from the same boring problem. The actual main story arc was ok but is continuously interrupted and ruined by the boring and uninteresting side stories that really do nothing to increase the depth of the characters. We nearly had another Hill House here if the story had focused on what it was about with more atmospherically scary moments and although some of the jump scares were actually good a lot of moments were way to predictable and just far too often. I feel like he's under pressure to fill out the episodes and just fleshed them out with filler. The focus should have been on the main story with more creepy moments more sneaky hidden ghosts and some real character depth not irrelevant tales. Hill House was a masterpiece, as was Geralts Game, but seems it was either a fluke or Flanagan really is bored of making Horror and is just using it to try and branch off into other fields where his story telling is just not suited to. Hopefully next time will actually be a scary Horror with Hill House used as blue print for what makes a good creepy tale.
