This is an unfortunate review, and I'm not one to ever leave them really. Stephen King is all I read, I love all his books, some more than others, but he is a consistent author who I am excited to read or know what he's writing next.
I was very excited about this book, as I had read all the books with Holly in them, with Bill Hodges. I enjoyed the story line of Holly, thankfully, because that's all that kept me engaged. I appreciated that this book talked about real world affairs at the time, such as Covid and presidential elections. However, Stephen King had to push his personal viewpoints on these topics every chance he could. It was so bad, I thought about throwing the book in the fireplace and it bothered me so much to talk to others about it. Stephen King, why??! I'm so sad those pushy viewpoints took so much away from a good overall plot. And almost ended the reading of any future books again by one of your most loyal readers. We all went through Covid, vaxed or not, Trump lover, or not, and don't need that reminder. I pick up a book to escape reality, not live through it over and over, like each and every chapter did multiple times in this book.
