A heartbreaking read! How everything was ripened and hopeful at first ended in a brief span of summer. This book may give the impression of a joyous novel for it's title yet it's much darker than that. A brief adventure of romance, sexual passion, desire for freedom, and in the background, the element of incest, all taking place against the midsummer landscape.

Gaskell has become my favorite author. She wonderfully describes the differences of the north and south London and delivers a realistic portrayal of passion, pride and the struggles of the working class. Really enjoyed it!

This was my first Agatha Christie and I enjoyed it immensely! A great thriller read. Now looking forward to Tommy and Tuppence's other adventures.
