Cringey dialogue- the second I hear a young kid excessively cussing for โcomedicโ purposes, I lose respect for the movie. It is just so awkwardly forced and unnatural sounding. And it never stopped. Very cliche depiction of a wannabe badass kid character. There were multiple plot-holes- the girl knowing her mom also had visions, then doubting belief in god, and then no mention of the mom for the rest of the movie. We know the mom killed herself. And thatโs it. The abusive dad whoโd always shamed the girl for her visions only apologized to the kids at the end of the movie to which neither of them repliedโฆ an odd open-ended plot.. Why didnโt the Grabber kill Finney? The kid had proven to not be going along with the โgameโ yet still got passes? They never touched base as to why the grabber was declining- his tiredness, why he was saying things were going wrong, etcโฆ. There was a lot of violence between children who were all seemingly world class fighters at 13. It was also never mentioned as to how the boy was also seeing visions and talking to them. The movie had a cool plot but delivery was not it. The grabber was a scary villain and I enjoyed the detail of his ever changing masks. He was scary. Wouldโve been cool to have seen him more and see his reasonings for what he was doing.
The movie was awkward, had mediocre acting (no offense to the children,) and many plot holes that leave you confused. Definitely not a movie Iโd recommend to anyone else and Iโm shocked so many people are liking it. This is a movie thatโll end up dusting on the lists of the โhorrorโ genre on Netflix even after everyone cancels their subscription. I think I am the black phones #1 hater
