Why does the show make everyone so unlikable the exception of your main character. SOOILERS
Season 2 is..... How do I put this it strives to be better than season 1 but it's hindered by some very odd choices in the writing. Locations/Stunts wise it's a huge upgrade.
For those that saw season 1 we know that the lead is a lovable bulletproof buffoon that finds his way into trouble or is a magnet for trouble. We lost a great character that was in season 1 that should have been in season 2 and everyone knows who this is, Max. Maybe she had another show scheduled or something.
But, we are introduced to her daughter which makes up for it, because she's as dangerous as she is unpredictable. Not to mention she has a tendency to own every room she walks into. The issue is that, this is a great character that in the end they fail to utilize correctly, the audience wants to see her on screen and we lose her a lot. And in the final episode of the season, once again another stab in the back.
Another main character in this show of course is the agency, which does everything in its power to make you hate it, over, and over, and over again. From the non-stop everyone is trying to unalive each other, to the non-stop double negatives of not wanting to know anything of anyone else. To the non-stop let's cover up and turn our back on our people. I understand the premise of protect the agency, but at this rate do they have a revolving door of recruits or something that they throw to the wolves.
Our character's best friend and roommate is practically written out of the season, with the exception of a few cameos. And our main characters girlfriend does have a running plot but again is forgotten by the end of the season, which is a huge letdown because she's great in the show.
There is our main characters Korean new friend which is the catalyst of all the plot points in this season, I will say I enjoy him on the screen and he actually drives the plot along without paradigm shifting as character like everybody else in the agency does, over, and over and over again. See what I did there.
There's a running plot involving an internal investigation with the CGC, again goes away kinda. There is a fact that you will see one of the most boring motorcycle chases, and a final swim where our characters manage to dodge a literal thousand bullets from probably 40 shooters. I don't know who was in charge of the action sequences but maybe they need to take a break and re-evaluate some stuff.
At least in the end, Owen has that look on his face that we all know, where every single time he tries to leave, they just pull him back in. That's a Godfather reference by the way. Hopefully we get some closure in season 3. And do we like Lester? I don't know, depends on which Lester you get. This is certainly not season 1, lives behind a desk Lester.
So after all that critique why do I give it four stars. The answer is Owen. You want him to succeed, his drive to maintain altruism while drowning in a sea of clandestine treachery makes for a good hero's journey, you want to see him swim harder and reach that surface. I'm hoping season 3 we start to definitely tie things up and get a better understanding if the agency is worth it.
