2022 wasn't a particularly glorious year with franchise movies, but I must admit Babylon turned this narrative around. I didn't watch Babylon when it immediately came out, but hell, I wish I did. The movie has a run-time of 3-hours with a storyline that dives 'deep' into the lives of 3 characters. Some scenes are wonderful, others inspirational, others, just meh. Nonetheless, I particularly enjoyed the trip down memory lane into the '20s that showcased how Hollywood has transformed through the years.
From the opening scene, you can tell the movie takes on a very dark comedic route. There's humor everywhere with every passing minute. Although there're moments when the soundtrack changes and you can tell everything isn't rosy. I loved everything from the soundtrack, cinematography, choice of cast, the energy displayed by the cast, and the core lessons passed down by the cast, although through bizarre dark twisted humor.
The acting, you ask? Well, brilliant acting performance by Margot Robbie, Diego Calva and every cast involved. I expected to see more from Phoebe Tonkin and Tobey Maguire, but unfortunately their scenes lasted a few minutes. Perhaps the filmmakers ought to have given them more spotlight. Talking of filmmakers, perhaps none of them were sober when shooting some scenes. Highly recommend!
