This generation of kids now have a Caribbean Ariel. Bravo! The musical scenes were faithful to the original animation, and quite marine scientifically accurate. Really liked the detail on sea creatures and natural landscapes. I also like that the MerSisters represented the 7 seas. I super loooove the African and Pacific sea sisters (Tavika and Perla, iloveyou) Standing ovation for Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, she is the star of this show. Javier Bardem gave Triton depth, and Grims the royal butler is my new favorite ally. Kudos to Awkwafina for voicing Scuttle so well. Luv the rap, go! go! go! Finally, it has the usual themes of coming of age womanhood, teenage rebellion, and true love. Not the icky kissy type, but the real, world-uniting kind. Thank you Disney. This mom who grew up with the animated red-haired Ariel approves of the reboot.
