Karunas delivers an outstanding performance, embodying the resilience and humanity of the protagonist in a way that feels both genuine and poignant. Vimal, too, shines with his portrayal of a man caught in helpless circumstances. His ability to display the subtle balance of his struggles—grappling with his inability to change the system yet finding joy and fulfillment in small acts of kindness and humanity—is commendable. His performance adds depth to the narrative, making his character relatable and memorable. The film does a brilliant job of portraying the everyday challenges faced by families living below the poverty line, yet determined to find joy in the simplest of life's pleasures. The incidents depicted are relatable, echoing the harsh realities of societal norms and the lengths people go to preserve their so-called honor. The director deserves applause for their craftsmanship. The screenplay blends storytelling and dialogue seamlessly, using flashbacks sparingly and effectively. Every scene, every conversation, and every moment feels necessary, building toward a satisfying conclusion that provides closure for all characters involved. In summary, Pogumidam Vegu Thooramillai is a well-executed, emotionally touching film that sheds light on the complex realities of human life. A highly recommended watch for those who appreciate heartfelt storytelling, authentic performances, and a glimpse into the emotional intricacies of everyday struggles.

Watched “Wicked Little Letters,” (Netflix) and I absolutely loved it! The film presents a simple story, but the storytelling is nothing short of amazing. While it may not fully fit into the "dark comedy" genre, it definitely has a negative edge, with wild curses that are both hilarious and intricately woven into the plot. Set in the 1920s, the film touches on themes of prejudice, shaming, and a rush to judgment that reminded me a bit of "12 Angry Men." Though I'm not familiar with any of the actors, their performances were exceptional. The two neighbors in particular were incredible; the ability to switch between innocent and devilishly villainous expressions was simply outstanding. The story is beautifully crafted and well-developed, with never a dull moment. It’s hard to believe how women were treated during that time, and the portrayal of the justice system is both shocking and thought-provoking. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed “Wicked Little Letters” and would give it 4 out of 5 stars. It’s definitely a film worth watching!

Watched Anweshippin Kandethum (in Tamil, Netflix) Malayalam Movie - Well Taken Crime Investigation Movie The film held me in the grip, I felt I knew the suspense from the start of the movie, though kept me fully engaged. When the plot unravels, commendable twist, that I didn’t anticipate, got to give kudos to the story writers. When I thought the movie is getting over, I noticed there is still more than an hour left in the movie! Movie ventures into another story. Felt like two episodes coupled and presented as a movie. I won’t be surprised if there is a sequel (or several). The quality of storytelling is very good. Never a dull moment. Good watch.

*Kalki*, I decided to watch the movie alone since my friends preferred the Hindi or Telugu versions, while I opted for the Tamil track that I really enjoy. Tamil Friends had watched the previous day that I couldn’t join.  Despite the theater being 20 miles away, I was sure I would meet someone I knew. As expected, I bumped into Subbu Loganathan and his family! It was lovely to meet Skanda, Samyukta, Akka, and Athan there. Kalki is a mixed bag of fantastic Masala, blending various elements into a unique cinematic experience. It feels as if the story was concocted by an AI like _ChatGPT_, _CoPilot_, _Bard_ all weaving together, millions of iterations, disparate elements in a seemingly random yet entertaining manner. The narrative appears, assembling fragments from multiple inspirations. The animations, while reminiscent of familiar sources, bring their own flair, drawing ideas from the likes of _Harry Potter_, _The Matrix _(both the first and third installments), _Lord of the Rings_, _Independence Day,_ and _Robo 2.0_. The film begins with a gripping take on a miniscule portion of  Mahabharata, seamlessly integrating this epic tale into a fictional story filled with Harry Potter-esque magic and Matrix-style action sequences. The fusion of these diverse genres results in a thoroughly entertaining movie. The film features an impressive cast, including big names like Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone. Kamal Haasan’s involvement goes beyond acting, as it seems he was given the creative freedom to write his dialogues, infusing them with his distinctive touch. However, to truly enjoy Kalki, one must go in with an open mind. Don’t expect a logical or deeply meaningful plot. Instead, embrace the sheer entertainment value, allowing yourself to be swept away by the spectacle. If you can do that, you’ll likely enjoy the film as much as I did. Now, I’m eagerly awaiting the sequel, Kalki 2.

Watched Tamil Movie "Raayan," the 50th film for Dhanush, written and directed by Dhanush, is a visceral journey into the dark, ruthless world of crime and survival. The film, deeply entrenched in action and savagery, takes the audience through a series of real-life-like fights, nasty punches, and brutal stabs. It's a relentless portrayal of a bloody struggle for survival that is both intense and raw. From the very beginning, "Raayan" grabs your attention with its gripping narrative and high-octane action sequences. The film’s gritty realism is reminiscent of earlier works such as "Asuran," "Madras," and "Vada Chennai," bringing to mind the same intense, unfiltered depiction of life’s harsh realities. Dhanush delivers an exceptional performance, bringing depth and authenticity to his role. His portrayal of the protagonist is both compelling and nuanced, adding a layer of complexity to the character’s brutal journey. S J Surya, known for his tendency to overact, surprises with a restrained and commendable performance, effectively supporting the film’s tone. Prakash Raj, while not in a typical villain role, plays a crucial part that injects the story with unexpected twists and turns, enhancing the overall narrative. One particular fight scene stands out for its sheer realism and brutality. It's a barbaric, primal struggle for survival where the characters attack with absolute rage, using whatever is at hand. The raw depiction of this fight, with its visceral hits and desperate maneuvers, emphasizes the film’s theme of sheer survival against all odds. However, as the movie progresses toward climax, it begins to lose its firm hold on the viewer. The storytelling, which starts strong, seems to waver, especially as it approaches the climax. There’s a palpable drop in narrative cohesion, leaving the audience wondering where the story is headed. This confusion is exacerbated by the sudden insertion of a song, which disrupts the flow and diminishes the tension built up until that point. Despite its flaws, "Raayan" manages to underscore a powerful theme: blood is thicker than water, but it isn't solid. The complex dynamics of familial bonds, loyalty, and survival are explored, albeit somewhat inconsistently. The raw energy of the performances and the stark, realistic fight scenes keep the movie grounded, even when the story meanders. In summary, "Raayan" is a compelling yet imperfect crime drama that showcases Dhanush's prowess in depicting brutal realism. While it may falter in storytelling towards the end, the film’s intense action, strong performances, and emotional undertones make it a notable entry in Dhanush’s filmography.
