Not having read the books, I simply enjoyed the The Winter King as a good source of (often gory) entertainment. I found the series suspenseful and atmospheric, and having caught it on ItvX often had to watch episodes back to back. Some excellent casting, especially Aneirin Hughes as Gorfydd and Steven Elder as Bishop Bedwin.
