So happy but sad to have just finished reading all of Ishiguro’s novels. I look so forward to more. But not opposing to some re-reads in the meantime. All of them are so disparate, yet so similar. One can never guess the ending, but all seem like slices of everyday life somehow, even though some are science-fiction. When we were Orphans seems so real, like it probably did happen to many people during wartime in China. Definitely historical fiction, but horrifyingly suspenseful, frustrating, sad, calm, and dreamlike all in one, like all of his books. I’m having a hard time deciding which one of his books I should recommend for my bookclub. We’ve already read Klara and the Sun and Remains of the Day. Anyway, When we were Orphans is just another great Ishiguro. My recommendation is to read all of his books. The order doesn’t matter. You get more and more appreciation of his varying storylines but his style becomes more defined, and you just want more to see what in the world could he come up with next!
