This page-turning book was so beautifully written, the word choice, the foreshadowing, and the poetic words made this book so exhilarating. Madeline Miller captured every detail, love, grief, hope, and anger, and created an outstanding book. The character development throughout the book is magical and the bond between Patroculos and Achilles is beautifully tragic. This book did not focus on the battles fought or who particularly was a hero, it focused on the individual strengths and relationships. The ending is sad and happy and the last sentence makes the whole book feel like a messed up fairy-tale.
The way it was written you experience every single emotion talked about or felt in this book which truly made it worthwhile. The Song of Achilles is always my top recommendation as I feel this book captured the essence of life. Madeline Miller showed the internal conflicts and the reasons behind each warrior which is something I feel is different from how other authors betray soldiers. After having read this book more than three times I still from time to time think about the quotes in this book and how they were written. The quotes carried so much meaning and captured every emotion and importance, this book would not be the same without the beautifully written quotes. The vivid descriptions in The Song Of Achilles made it feel like I was watching the events unfold. I could see the blue empty sky as the water ran clear, I could feel the despair and sorrow as the war was not ending, and I could hear the lyre being played by Achillis as Patroclus and Chiron listened peacefully.
Although some people think that this book was slow, and dumbed down Greek mythology, this book focused more on basic Greek mythology and can be for someone who doesn't know Greek mythology as well. Some people think this book went by fast and was rushed and some people think it took too long to get to the points. It seems although it is someone's personal attention span or personal opinion and less on if it was actually rushed or if it was slow. Personally everything about this book is spectacular and is a must-read even if you are not a fan of history or reading. This book Is my all-time favorite and although I have other favorites, nothing compares to The Song Of Achilles.
