Much more faithful to the novel than the 1970s John Wayne version, and the novel was an unbelievably excellent book so this is an excellent movie! I read the book in 5th or 6th grade and still vividly remember it, and I'm now in my 60s! (That's the hallmark of great literature BTW: books you remember in detail many years later. Read the book and watch this film version if you can!)
