After three episodes, I just don't want to waste any more time on this show. The premise showed promise - a Black Mirrorish, near future in a stunning setting seemed to be right up my alley, but miscasting, bad acting and a bad script sank this ship. Rashida Jones is one dimensional as an eternally sour, rude American who apparently learned nothing about polite Japanese society in the ten years she spent in Kyoto, as we see in the season opener. Granted, she's grieving the loss of her husband and son, but not very credibly, and in flashbacks to her arrival in Kyoto as a still-single woman, she's just as grumpy and unappealing. The plot is a mysterious mess, and Sunny the robot is creepy and annoying. I give it two stars: one for the fantastic house in the Gion district of Kyoto, and one for the interesting costume choices that are spot-on Japanese high fashion. C'mon A24, I know you can do better.
