I had never heard of this movie, even though it’s almost 10 years old. When I turned on my tv, it was at the top of the suggested movies, so I gave it a try (I usually like Morgan Freedman). I was not disappointed. It’s an easy watch. It kept me engaged. Although it touched on serious subjects, it was humorous. They set out to sell their apartment/condo, but could never articulate a good reason for wanting to move. As I watched, I figured it would end the way it does. After all, their dog’s name is Dorothy and we know there’s no place like home.

Masterful. I don’t think I’ve felt this way about a movie since Forest Gump. I just watched it for a second time. I’ve been recommending it to family. The chemistry between Bernie and Heidi is so warm and loving. I was in tears at the juxtaposition of Heidi being in Liberty, NY finally getting closure on her family’s history while back in Reno, NV the unthinkable was unfolding. Heidi was mature beyond words. I loved how Heidi convinced Bernie to try and get over her phobia by comparing it to learning cursive writing. What a convincing performance! My heart raced as Bernie talked herself through each step. I would be remiss to overlook Heidi’s mom. Her character was very convincing. I appreciate how she attempted to communicate through her art. Superb!
