Your reaction to this will depend very much on what you are looking for, what pushes your buttons. I went into the cinema prepared to be mildly bored, but as soon as we hit the opening sequence I was utterly thrilled. That moment when the Abbey comes dramatically into view gave me chills. Beautiful camerawork and music. And a profusion of great one-liners (what I call 'Cunard' jokes) that I would have been proud to have written myself.
Sentimental? Perhaps. It was pushing it a bit that everyone ended up "happy ever after". But I didn't care one bit. There are few films I come away from with a thrill and a warm glow. But this was one. There are too few offerings like this one.
