I also had to read this book for 7th grade, and let me say, I am being generous by giving it two stars. Although this doesn’t have much to do with the book, the audio that we had to listen to was absolutely insufferable. The plot is so predictable and yet…not? It gets messy at the end and doesn’t make much sense, since it REALLY plays into the stereotypical historical aspects. Because nothing bad can ever happen to that stupid main character except predictable things. In addition, the main character is whiny and annoying, the author uses said for almost every piece of dialogue. Before you all say as much, yes: I know yellow fever was disgusting, and well this book definitely… showed it, beware for chapter nine. It was absolutely traumatizing. Honestly, the people that like this just like YA, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with that, it’s just not my cup of tea.
