So weirdly written I am convinced that either this book was created by AI or AI was deeply involved! Either that or the author is well-acquainted with her thesaurus. The writing is unnatural and lacking flow due to the over abundance of obscure words. More apt terms consistently feel as though they have been rewritten to be more imaginative (“she cerebrated” for example where a more natural term might be “mused” - i defer to the author as to where “cerebrate” is even a word…) Many words are also misused. Self-conscious attempts at an overly literary, turgid style coupled with really dull dialogue. Makes the reader wince. It’s hard going. I haven’t finished yet but am trying to persevere even though the beginning of the book starts at the end of the story so there’s not too much mystery. I am mystified as to how this book could be up for any awards though!
