I sometimes do not wish to give bad stars. This game is worth checking out if one is into beautiful games like Ori. Although for me, it has personally disappointed me greatly.
Whilst i love the idea of the game’s world: environment, graphics/visuals and being able to swim in a nice beautiful water environment. (That’s pretty cool), it has also given me a great disappointment leading to me uninstalling the game permanently.
Here is why i didn’t enjoy it.
Reasons:
1. Effects is too much. Certain areas are too much to look at. Character blends within the environment, causing the inability on my end as the player to focus on what’s actually happening on the screen and where the character is. Because of the too much effects, some of the environment’s spikes and ‘no go to’ areas cannot be properly seen by the player (me) unless I die twice and realise then how many spikes there is in an entire area. The environment in certain areas feels incomplete, unpolished and as if they’re there as a decoration rather than to damage the character.
2. Music is beautiful. But it has no variety. Sure, there’s a lot of soundtracks, but they all sound similar in my opinion.
3. I found out the check point is not helpful. The game allows the player to create a save point wherever the player is as long as the player has enough blue energy to do so. Problem with that is, when i did do it ‘wherever’ possible, i quickly then found out some areas are not the best for checkpoints when i thought they were. Turns out once i put a save point on an enemy spawner which caused a huge bug in the game, and when i made my character to respawn at that save point, the enemy immediately then decided ‘it’s time to spawn here and show the player how it’s done’ so the save point no longer worked/works and few other issues with it. Even though there was no enemy there in the first place. The save points are not clear as they should be.
3. The platforming is good enough. The character has too much movement whenever they go left and right just once. They slip into areas one does not want them to slip into. They don’t do as tasked by the keyboard. The whole movement of the character is awkward. I spent 20+ hours. I did the Ginso tree flood in 1st try. Surprisingly i found that easy to do with the character’s awkward movements.
4. The narrator talking was actually not my cup of tea. I prefer silent narratives. So this game was not my cup of tea from the start.
I really really tried to love this game. Because i knew how many people loved it, but i just could not, after seeing all the flaws. It was just not enjoyable for me.
