I was really looking forward to watching this show but was extremely disappointed. I am a career healthcare investigator who didn’t recognise a single practice in the show. It’s not clear where the material originated- it seems to be a script that originated in the US and indeed, the clue is in the name, as in the UK, we tend to talk about medical negligence. The premise of a lone consultant surrounded by nurses and junior doctors who were all pretty gormless set the stage for this drama. Said lone consultant put herself in harms way, potentially leaving the department to be run by above mentioned formless staff. Another patient died at the hands of one of the gormless junior docs, resulting in a complaint by the patient’s father, Sir Somebody. Bish bosh, before we knew it, the lone consultant was appearing before a medical investigation unit being represented by another investigator in what looked like litigation preparation when it should have been her BMA rep if it came to that but the preliminary enquiry had not even begun. It all looked very litigious, which again is not the style of the NHS. The aggressive and confrontational methodology for investigation on the show bears no resemblance to the current practice in the NHS. The final filip landed us with the sad news that the consultant would be subject to a fitness to practice review when there was little to no evidence that she was not fit at the time of the incident (maybe later but not now). Don’t know who was consulted on the veracity of the material but it was a wash. Disappointing in the extreme
