The game was a hot mess, to put it nicely. The combat system felt downgraded and basic. I played this installment on Nightmare right away, and was blown away by how easy the entire game was. The addition of the shieldsaw was definitely unique and refreshing, but other than that, the game didn't bring anything new to show. The story felt forced and like it was competing with the game play too much. Decent level design, but every mission was too short. It felt like they were trying to make a story focused version with the feel of the 1993 Doom and Doom Hell on Earth. I would have given this a 3/5 rating, because it's not a bad game overall. However, the pathetic and uninspired things like Cthullu in the story and the terrible sountrack definitely brought the rating down as low as I could put it.
The soundtrack... wow. id needs to find a way to get Mick Gordon back on board, but I wouldn't be surprised if he refuses after what they did. The tracks don't sound like they go with the game, and they sound like someone who doesn't know anything about metal, or even music, made them.
In other words, if you want to play generic, somewhat satisfying game with decent combat, this game is for you. However, if you want to play a Doom game... go play one of the originals, the 2016 reboot, or Eternal. This isn't a Doom game.
