It takes real courage to be transparent. I applaud this authorial debut for giving the reader a peek into the raw and at times eerily relatable accounts of the characters rites to passage, challenges, troubles, triumphant victories and hopeful learned lessons. One side of the split screen portrays a well to do, affluent family within the community and from the surface everything is perfect. The other side, reveals the presence of the child searching for their own voice, looking for validation in the wrong places. The imbalance is so clear and yet oddly subtle. I look forward to further development of the character in the sequel where we can only hope that through full circle experiences she finds her true mature voice and heroism.
