Smile 2 is an overall decent follow-up to the first film, though it does have some predictable moments, especially as it builds towards the ending. While it delivers plenty of the unsettling atmosphere and jump scares that made the original a success, there are certain plot points that felt like you could see them coming from a mile away. This predictability takes a bit of the edge off the horror, especially when it comes to the final act.
The biggest disappointment, though, lies in the ending itself. By choosing the route they did, it feels like they may have closed the door on the possibility of a Smile 3, which is a letdown. The story had so much potential to continue, and releasing a new Smile film each year around Halloween could have been a great tradition. Instead, it seems like this might be the end, and while the film is enjoyable in its own right, itโs hard not to feel like they missed an opportunity to keep building on the franchise.
