The beginning was interesting and the characters were new and unique, but the movie overall was very confusing.
They tried to make Snow empathetic, while acknowledging his cruelty, which make it felt like force-fitting his character.
The characters of the tributes were not explored as deep, except for Rachel Zegler's.
Zegler's character started off as kind of rebellious, but this wasn't during the entire movie and her character jumped from being sad to happy within the blink of an eye. It looked almost as if her character had bipolar disorder. Almost all of the shots were of her eyes and face and she sung songs from the other Hunger Games, which was clearly trying to bring in nostalgia, but it ended up feeling cheese and cheap for me.
During the storyline I constantly had to guess 'Why?' something was going on. Most characters made some stupid decisions, which did not fit with the intelligence of their character.
Most of the movie is also filled with dialogue, which makes it boring.
I do not believe that other people actually like this movie, but I will give it one star, because they did use a lot of CGI.
The most exiting part was the fight between the tributes, but without knowing who they really were, I could not care that much about them.
Overall: this movie was cheesy, trying to find support in the nostalgia for the other Hunger Games movies, while the setting, plot, conflicts, resolutions and ending did not make sense. I also got bored by all of the dialogue.
