Kristin Hannah is a master storyteller and in this book once again she proved herself as an excellent author. Her portrayal of Frankie is masterful. The way she wrote about the atrocities in Vietnam brought the true meaning of what is like to be in a war zone. The disappointment the soldiers felt after they came back from the war zone was vivid and incredibly raw. They sacrificed their lives and they were spat upon when they returned home. This was even worse for women because they were not even accepted as vets. They worked in hospitals and took care of many in the most dangerous conditions but they were not considered veterans. Personally I hate wars with every single cell in my body and this book told the true story of war without sugarcoating it with nonsense. I began reading it on Sunday morning and did not put it down until I was finished with the book.
