walking into theaters without seeing the trailer and having no expectations. Without giving away any spoilers, the movie starts off well, and it's incredibly fast-paced. SRK's charm works throughout the film. The story is well-written, though it could have been better. The movie holds your attention with its basic plot centered around democracy, the dark side of politics, and a rich businessman's success. There's a twist during the interval, which, while predictable, is well-executed. Deepika's small role is impressive; she looks stunning and reminded of my fanboy days.
The film has many characters, and everyone plays their roles well. However, Vijay Setupati's South accent, without proper establishment as a South character, makes serious dialogues somewhat funny. At times, the movie becomes overwhelming, like the recreation of a Mahendra Bahubali scene in the prison. Bollywood's obsession with adding songs every 10 minutes remains consistent, but the VFX is good. SRK's monologue about democracy, voting and standing up against corruption is thought-provoking.
While "Chak de India" remains my favorite SRK movie, Jawaan is a complete family entertainer. Despite its minor flaws, it's definitely worth a watch.
