Ace of Spades is an extremely powerful book that amazed by its message and writing.
The book started as a mere thriller, set in an attractive dark academia setting. The dynamics between characters were already impressive, and it was hard not to be hooked. But it quickly started expanding in something much grander, bigger: In Ace of Spades, Àbíké-Íyímíd denounces racism and paints an image that horrifies by its realisticness. The escalation from a dark academy thriller to a terrifying and hard story about social eugenics is shocking and overwhelming for the reader but necessary. The betrayal and realization as the characters are left alone is a paralysing poison.
I cannot express how touched I was by this captivating and horrifying book, and I would like to sincerely thanks Àbíké-Íyímíd for creating such a hard and flawless oeuvre.
