As a middle-aged woman, I found this Cronenberg inspired body horror film to be deeply poignant. The level of self-hatred of Demi Moore’s expertly played character, triggered by societal cruelty toward aging women in particular, strikes at the heart of the issue with such ferocity. It’s unforgettable. References to Aronofksy’s Requiem for a Dream are clear, showing the astute way the director pushes us so far into discomfort, we can’t help but question destructive norms and be moved.
