I wasn't born when the first Cosmos series with Carl Sagan came out but I was in college when the second series did, it completely changed my view on science documentaries and felt like it raised the bar for other science documentaries. David Attenborough is obviously the best nature documentarian as a whole but Chimp Empire is the best nature documentary I have ever seen and it feels like it raises the standard for nature documentaries. As others have said the camera work is amazing, there are a few shots/scenes that are honestly unbelievable that they managed to capture. Some dummy said it was dragged out... I honestly am unsure of what they mean their was a great amount of information and any establishing shots (or b-roll I guess?) really showed the world/ environment the chimps live in. I think because chimps are so close to humans and that it was an edited piece of media similar to TV shows and movies they thought it was a TV show and not an informational documentary, their is betrayal, plotting, alliances and war in this but it's not Game of Thrones and thank god.
