This movie is a big disappointment to me. As a trans woman I went to see it hoping to see a complex character dealing with her identity and her past but I got none of it.
The author of this movie understands nothing about what it's like being trans. For them everything seems to be about getting surgery, yesterday you were a man and then *poof* today you are a woman. There is an extremely small amount of continuity between the character before and after medical transition. She follows way too many clichรฉs: "I always felt like a woman", while every other character has been selected to fall exactly into beauty standards she is the only one that does not, she has creepy mannerisms, and she follows exactly all the way of being and dressing set for cis women after she transitions despite having previously lived a life in the margins.
The plot had so much potential: a former drug dealer trying to live a more peaceful life and achieving her lifelong dream of becoming a woman while dealing with family and remorse.
The artistic direction of the movie was also really good. The shots look very pleasant and the musical bits (especially the first one) give some soul to the story.
Tldr : A great idea completely wasted by the poor writing of the main character. I wanted powerful and unsmooth representation and I got what a transphobes believes a trans women is.
