The beginning was fast and uninspired unlike 28 weeks later. The rite of passage made no sense. The inclusion of alpha zombies made no sense. The zombies eating worms made no sense. The zombies decorating trees made no sense. Pregnant zombie mothers giving birth to perfectly normal babies made no sense. The doctor not killing the Alpha, making a bone temple, killing the boy's mother made no sense. The boy staying away from his village made no sense. The power ranger scene made no sense at the end. The flashbacks didn't make sense. The symbolism is lackluster entirely. The world building was completely void. No character development for every character introduced throughout the film, besides the protagonist. The Alpha could reach the island village but other zombies couldn't? Okay, and why didn't he attack the Village before this? 10 zombies overrunning 8 soldiers with firearms? Basically EVERY zombie is naked, not every piece of clothing deteriorates that fast. Jewelry doesn't just dissappear. The doctor lived on the mainland without any forms of defense for 28 years. How? I also have reserves on his mother having cancer. Overall, it felt like a spoof of the actual 28 franchise.
