Now I'm a huge fan of melanie and I wish that I could rate this higher but I have afew issues with this movie
Also *spoilers*
I think a vast majority of the songs rom this album are either peak or at least pretty good. However the movie I think the first part is good. Everything before they kill the principle I like. Wheels on the bus was a fun scene however it marked the start of one of my major problems with this movie. I have to say I don't like the fairy magic stuff in this movie. Now I'm not saying I hate Portals I actually like the asthetic it's going for but I think that shouldn't have been apart of this movie. I think K-12 would have been a better if it didn't link Cry Baby to Portals like that. Even if just her the powers and everyone else was normal I think that would have felt more natural. However with that said I liked the design of the school and the opening scene till the end of Class Fight. This is where Cry Baby just uses her hair to choke a girl out and this is in front of her whole class and the big bad teacher see her doing this on the camera. It's even played for laughs when the teacher sees. Now first Cry Baby just exposed herself to god and everybody that she has powers like I get shes supposed to be a kid but now the big oppressive school knows her. However this big bad school's principle is killed by them maybe twenty minutes later after Cry Baby gets a group of kids together and they rip him to shreds. This was the point where I started to check out of the movie because now the main threat of this movie was been shown to be beaten and there's still like an hour left. It felt like melanie wrote the first thirty minutes and then was like "OH shit I still gotta make another hour." It felt like the rest of the movie didn't have any threat for the characters and if it wasn't for the music and dances being entertaining and meaningful I would have stopped watching. I felt like teachers pet had a lot of wasted potential as well if the story was based in a more grounded setting that would have been right at home but the ending of that song felt very random and not at all what the song was about. The ending was also pretty meh
Over all I think K-12 is a very mediocre movie there was so much potential for a grounded distopian about a magical girl who against the worst of the worst odds manages to take down the evil school alongside a group of rag tag friends. I think that would have been amazing.
