I almost shut this show off mid-way through the first episode. I decided to give it a chance. This show is a slow burn. It didn't really pick up for me until episode 7 which finally made me laugh.
HIMYM was one of those shows that grabs you from the very first episode which is how it should be. HIMYM also did well by offering up relatable relationship concepts everyone could relate to. This show is aimed at a younger audience and perhaps it just doesn't resonate as well with me but by the end of the season I felt like it was finding it's stride even though it was a rough ride to get there.
The characters feel very one dimensional in the beginning and the group takes time to mesh.
Whereas HIMYM you can still tune in years later and have a laugh this show is so inundated with social media lingo name dropping that in just a few years it will feel extremely dated and will not have those topical relatable moments HIMYM gave us.
This show feels a bit predictable and I am a little surprised it got picked up for a second season. There are definitely better shows out there and you shouldn't have to wait 7 episodes or multiple seasons to enjoy a show. This one may hit it's stride in the second season but it is not one I will be anxiously anticipating as I do with other shows. I feel like for the most part you can probably skip this one all together and just rewatch HIMYM with more enjoyment and less wait time on a good laugh.
