I dont get emotionally touched with films. But with this one, my eyes could not hold its esteem infront of the emotional masterpiece.
The film greatly emphasis human relations - a beautiful tale between his past and present relationships and how human empathy is the thread that stitches people together, after all, arent we social creatures?
I think the people who rated 1 star was primarily because of that one scene that involved otto helping a transgender kid, especially after he learnt his wife had supported that kid, and many people claim thats leftist or woke propaganda. It's really narrowminded of them, and im not a leftist or right winged. If you think about it, that otto was devastated with his wife's loss and how he almost want to die, then how his neighbour's relationship restored faith in him, its not suprising that he understood the transgender kid;s same condition, with no social relationship and subsequently empathised with him, after all, that was also what otto needed. One such claim was that how an old school guy can accept it. And my answer to that is he is never told old school. He is grieve strucken, thats all. And it really shows how the neighbours connections brought out life, how he helped people that society does not allow, which eptomises the power of empathy.
The last scene especially with ottos condition of a 'big' heart, was perfection. Absolutely great.
