Edit upon completion of the game: Elden ring is massively overrated, it's the foundation of a great game, but it misses the mark in so many ways. It is truly impossible to play without a guide (which is no fun), there are things to do but you'll miss 90% of it because there's no indication of where to go or what to do, some people praise this aspect of the game, but it deserves no praise it's lazy and unstructured. The map is ginormous, which would usually be a good thing, but elden ring manages to make that a farce by locking certain areas of the world or just making it impossible to find a path (I spent 3 hours yesterday trying to find my way to the top of a cliff), also its super grindy. Be prepared to be sat farming xp for days on end.
The only praise I have is the variety of enemies. I just wish they'd put as much time and effort into making a structured storyline that is easily followed. I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone who isn't familiar with the format, and even still, I'd probably recommend assassins creed first. 6/10
Inital thoughts:
This game is massively overrated. Yes it looks good but that's about the only thing that the reviews got right.
Firstly, There's no clear objectives or waypoint. The open world is incredibly scarce of things to do, the combat is finicky. The menus are unnecessarily complex.
As a positive. There's a huge variety of enemies but more often than not, they can take you down in a couple of hits which is great, I don't mind struggling through... If there was a point or reason for me doing so but the only thing to do is kill enemies so you can level up to then kill more enemies.
A lot of people are praising the game for its exploration. But there's nothing to explore its mostly an empty wasteland.
Would I recommend the game? Never. It's like assassins creed but with nothing to see or do.
