I’m surprised this is getting poor reviews. Although I didn’t take to it the first time I watched it, the second time through, I was hooked. I loved the 2007 movie (I’m a huge Rupert Penry-Jones fan), and loved the book. Dakota Johnson is an amazing actor, she carries every scene she’s is in, and is a beautiful, and believable, cryer. And has a believable posh English accent, to this American, at least. She and Cosmo Jarvis have chemistry. It took me a while to warm to him; I carried Penry-Jones in my head for a long time, so it was hard to shift to Jarvis. He portrays the character with strength that others haven’t, except for Ciaran HInds, possibly. Jarvis has played gangsters and tough guys, which might have given him the edge Penry-Jones didn’t bring to the screen. I think Penry-Jones is the handsomest actor to portray Wentworth, but Jarvis might be a close runner up. And he’s a good actor. The supporting cast were all fabulous, especially Richard E. Grant. And everyone loves Henry Golding. The sets were wonderful, the music fun, and the photography captured the lush countryside. This is a cute, romantic movie, well worth seeing twice.
