Steve Biko
Picador Africa
At a time where the black community’s existence was constantly been threatened, anti-apartheid activist Bantu Stephan Biko who would not let his community summit to oppression. 1968 he formed a movement (the black conciseness) that had one goal: to make the black community rally together to freedom. 1969, when he became the president of the South African Students' Organization (SASO) he saw this opportunity as a platform, to redefine what south Africa should be. What change will we see Biko make? How will the white government react? And What is black consciousness
This book was an adventures book that opens the mind and shapes the heart towards the black community. It brought a lot of pain and anger in what racism does to people and how it can tear down a nation. The book shows what is the way forward in life. It makes you ask questions that you never heard of before, it makes you feel pain you needed feel, and it makes you stronger than you were before reading it.
The book is a hard read, but it is so worth it. Here and there might be some misunderstand able information ,but that needs research but its worth it. It took me a long time to read this book although its 242 pages, but it just took longer process my emotion and finding the answers to my questions before moving on to the next chapter.
I felt this book was particularly strong in history and politics. I especially appreciated the black empowerment.
I recommend this book to understand the struggle African faced and are still facing.
