The book is a psychological analysis of a man’s mind when he is faced with extreme situation of pain, suffering and trauma . Victor Frankl was a psychologist who was imprisoned in concentration camp during holocoust for two years. Despite unbearable torture and inhuman treatment how a man cope up with such situations psychologically is well explained in the book. In these camps man is reduced to a non entity; his ‘self’ is attacked continually and his entire being is smashed by physical, mental and psychological torture. Victor Frankl says that no one can control one’s thoughts and imagination and this becomes his survival strategy in these camps and ultimately he succeeded in coming out alive . In this book, he depicts his experience and acquaints the world/ reader with this most dreadful and horrifying historical event of the world. He mentions three psychological stages dissimilar to Sigmund Freud in coping with such situations. He also gives his own psychological treatment to treat such mental traumatic psychological issues.
