I wish I could give it Zero stars. As a fan of Basquiat, the movie did not honor his life in any way at all. He was middle class, educated, spoke 3 languages, a world traveler, a legend in art before age 25, a fashion icon and friend to many. Yet the movie made him look like a poor, homeless, uneducated, drug-addicted, thoughtless kid from the streets who magically became an artist with the help of the white people around him.
The movie is exploitative and created to credit others at his expense. I think Basquiat would have cringed at this movie. It presents the image of him he fought against his entire lifetime. It is a shame he is still being exploited in this way. If you want to know Basquiat, you're better off reading Wikipedia than watching this move.
