"Local Hero" is, as others have said, my favorite movie of all time. Why? The actors (and characters), the locale (Scotland), the writing and MUSIC. Someone has said that the film was ruined by the incident of cooking the rabbit; it's a movie--in reality, the rabbit (a bit part, obviously) was not injured in the making of this film.
Who was the real hero of the movie? Certainly not the kid on the motor bike who tries to run over Mac a few times. The hero is Marina, the mermaid who saves the environment from the evils of petroleum extraction and refinement. 1983 is when this movie was made. "Local Hero" is decades ahead of its time.
Love the film and will watch it again and again. And yeah, the final scenes with the music score, I get weepy regardless of my damn age.
